Medals poured in for India as shooters launched their campaign in spectacular fashion winning three gold and one silver on the opening day of the event at the 18th Commonwealth Games here today, ie March 17th.
But India has had to face considerable embarrassment even before the start of the events due to the Diwan Ashgar Nabi episode. His case comes up for hearing in a Melbourne court today, ie. Friday.
On Tuesday Diwan Nabi had been charged with one count of indecent assault and one of unlawful assault against a 16-year-old working as a cleaner in the athletes’ village.
There are signs of a controversy beginning to emerge regarding the appointment of Diwan into the Indian contingent.
